One similar challenge we have noticed in all our RTLB meetings is that every student and their learning habits, needs and languages are different.
Many learners supported by RTLB services have experienced repeated frustration with literacy.
They may require more scaffolding.
More repetition.
More opportunities to experience success.
Unfortunately, independent literacy activities can sometimes reinforce mistakes rather than support progress.
As RTLBs, we understand your role is often about helping schools remove barriers to learning and ensuring students receive the support they need to participate, progress, and succeed alongside their peers.
One of the biggest challenges is ensuring that students continue to receive quality support between intervention sessions. When students develop confidence in letter sounds, blending, reading, and writing, they are better able to access classroom learning, communicate their ideas, and participate in everyday school life. Without guidance, students may unknowingly repeat incorrect letter formations, reinforce inaccurate sound-letter connections, or become frustrated when they are unsure of what to do next.
Students who experience repeated failure often begin to view themselves as struggling learners, making it even harder to engage them in literacy activities.
SonicPhonics was designed to provide students with structured, supportive literacy practice that reinforces the foundational skills required for reading and writing success.
As students work through activities, they receive real-time corrective feedback in letter sounds, blending, handwriting, reading, and writing. This guidance helps prevent students from repeatedly practising errors while allowing them to learn at their own pace.
For learners who require additional scaffolding, SonicPhonics provides an environment where support is built into the learning experience. Rather than being left to guess when they make mistakes, students receive immediate guidance that helps them understand, correct, and continue learning with confidence.
By combining structured literacy instruction with real-time guidance and corrective feedback, SonicPhonics helps create more opportunities for students to practise successfully, build confidence, and make progress on their literacy journey.
Many students supported by RTLB services benefit from additional scaffolding, repetition, and opportunities to experience success. SonicPhonics provides a supportive learning environment where students can practise foundational literacy skills at their own pace while receiving guidance throughout the learning process. Immediate feedback helps reduce frustration and prevents students from repeatedly practising errors, while the structured nature of the programme encourages confidence and independence. By providing consistent support across classroom, intervention, and home settings, SonicPhonics helps create more opportunities for positive literacy experiences.
